Fire protection is defined by Wikipedia as the study of the
behavior, compartmentalization, suppression and investigation
of fire and its related emergencies as well as the research and
development, production, testing and application of mitigating
systems. For homes and families, this just means there are professional
engineers out there figuring out the best materials and ways of
protecting buildings from total devastation from fire.
Fire protection in the home mean installing smoke alarms, purchasing
doors and windows rated for fire resistance. Engineers and code
officials use the term when referring only to fire sprinkler systems,
not fire alarm or advance smoke detection.
The fire protection industry wants to ensure:
• Life safety
• Property protection
• Continuing operations in the event of a fire
